Under
the direction of Professor Richard Blatti, the OSU Symphonic
Band is comprised of approximately sixty talented instrumentalists,
most of whom are undergraduate and graduate music majors. This
ensemble has earned an enviable reputation through its performances
for the College Band Directors National Association, at the
Professional Conference for the Ohio Music Educators Association,
on tour, and through its recordings of new wind literature
for the Boosey and Hawkes Windependence Series.
The Symphonic Band performs six campus concerts each year
and, since 1990, has premiered eight new works for concert
band. Students in the band have had the opportunity to work
with such notable conductors and composers as Frederick Fennell,
Frank Ticheli, H. Robert Reynolds, Gunther Schuller, John P.
Paynter, David Gillingham, Daniel Bukvich, Col. Timothy Foley,
John Mackey, Elizabeth Green, Roger Cichy, and Warren Benson.
Membership is open to all Ohio State University students and
auditions are held in the Autumn and Spring of each academic
year.
